Welsh transport minister Carl Sargeant has announced a new funding scheme to support bus operators, community transport and local authority bus services across the country. The £25million Regional Transport Services Grant will replace the former Bus Services’ Operators Grant, the Local Transport Services Grant and Community Transport Concessionary Fares Initiative. It comes in to force on 1 April. Under the new funding scheme bus operators will be rewarded for developments such as maintaining a strategic network of core routes, offering affordable fares, improving timetables and providing multi-operator ticketing schemes. The fund will be administered through the Regional Transport Consortia.
