"Although MPs have voted the third runway through in principle, key issues remain unresolved. Crucially there is the cost of extra surface access to the expanded airport. If this even approaches the £15 billion figure suggested by Transport for London, it could see cash diverted from other transport projects in the capital and in the north of England. Then there are the questions about local air pollution, and whether extra public transport and other measures will be enough to meet international standards. It's also now unclear where the Government stands on tackling climate change as its own advisers said that if Heathrow expanded other airports could not.
