A $3.5 million, 27,000-hour cleaning blitz on the interior of Sydney’s trains is radically improving the standards of cleanliness with some seats and floors receiving their most intensive scrub in more than a decade. Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said the blitz comes after the NSW Government established a permanent cleaning unit outside of RailCorp with new commercial benchmarks and new management to ensure trains will be properly cleaned on an ongoing basis. Ms Berejiklian said the $3.5 million cleaning blitz will: See more than 1300 carriages extensively deep cleaned by June 30; Properly clean fabric seats in Millenium, Oscar and Tangara carriages using dry encapsulation machines – basically dry steam cleaning – after it was found cleaning techniques used in the past to clean these seats were not up to scratch; Scrub carriage floors and under seats using pres...
