Hume Highway duplication completion After more than 50 years of ongoing construction and the creation of an estimated 80,000 jobs in NSW, RMS has completed the duplication of the Hume Highway. Linking the nation's two largest state capitals, the Hume Highway is Australia's most significant major highway. With the opening of the Holbrook Bypass in mid 2013, the route completes the transformation from its dirt track origins into a modern four lane dual carriageway highway. Stretching a distance of more than 800 kilometres, the completed highway will ensure a safer and more efficient trip for travellers and road freight between Sydney and Melbourne. The construction of 22 major bypasses within NSW alone has removed large trucks from local roads and towns, cutting down noise and other traffic impacts on local communities.
