Stop the climate gag: tell the Government its national roads policy would be a national disaster.

Dear Sir/Madam, I am responding to the consultation on the draft National Policy Statement for National Networks (NPS). I strongly disagree with the definition of 'national need' in this policy, and I am very concerned that the Government wants to dramatically increase road space. The policy forecasts traffic growth of 40% by 2040 but national statistics show traffic is now lower than it was ten years ago. I am also concerned at how protection is weakened for biodiversity, wildlife sites, habitats, ancient woods and landscapes. All of these are set against the 'national need' defined by a large increase in road-building, which is not necessary or backed up by evidence. Most alarming is section 3.4, which takes the impact of a new road on climate change out of the planning process altogether.
