TyneTeesWear News: New warning lights to be installed at Metro level crossings #metro #nefollowers

Nexus, which owns, manages and is modernising the Tyne and Wear Metro, is investing £800,000 on new safety features at Metro level crossings. The five level crossings which are maintained by Nexus are to get brighter stop lights and clearer warning signs as part of the £389m Metro: all change modernisation programme. There will also be red warning lights on the pedestrian crossing points in order to improve safety for people on foot. Tactile paving will be fitted for people with visual impairments, which is an extra safety feature alongside the audio alarm that warns of an approaching train. The safety features are being installed at Callerton Parkway, Bank Foot Kingston Park and Fawdon level crossings in Newcastle, and at the Howdon level crossing in North Tyneside.
