Update on approval of Quality Bus Contract work at today's meeting of West Yorks Transport Authority meeting

Councillors at today’s West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority Executive Board meeting supported Chairman Cllr James Lewis in urging Metro to progress work on the future shape of bus services. Members from all parties represented agreed that work to look at new Government proposals on Better Bus Area funding and updated offers on voluntary partnership working from the bus operators needed to be carried out promptly. This they said would put the ITA would be in a position to take a decision on whether to progress Quality Contracts by the end of 2012. ITA members heard that recently-announced proposals by Transport Minister Norman Baker meant any area introducing Quality Contracts could be prevented from bidding for Better Bus Area funding, designed to improve bus services. The funding lost could amount to as much as £5m, they were told, but this could be far outweighe...
